Signs you have limiting beliefs

We all have subconscious beliefs that shape who we are and shape our reality. Whilst the beliefs we hold can be positive, others can be very limiting; they keep us stuck. If the same issues keep cropping up then it’s a sign that it’s time to work on shifting these limiting beliefs. Here are five signs that your inner beliefs might be limiting your growth.

You Keep Hitting the Same Blocks

Do you feel like sometimes you’re going round in circles or the same issues keep presenting? This might be in relationships, work, health, money, or life in general? When the same patterns keep repeating, it’s often a sign that we have deep-rooted beliefs. For example, “I don’t deserve X Y Z” or “I’m not good enough.” Ask yourself, what situation/patterns keeps playing out? What’s not getting resolved? What are my beliefs around the patterns that keeps repeating?

You Unknowingly Sabotage Opportunities or Your Goals

For example, you might see a job you really want to apply for, yet you don’t apply because you’re thinking “I’m not ready,” “I’m not qualified enough”. Or you might have a health and fitness goal, and everything is going well for a while but then you ‘fall off the wagon’ or start to feel resistant to change. The subconscious will always throw a spanner in the works to protect you from stepping outside of where you feel comfortable. This often comes down to a past experience where you experienced a negative feeling. This experience creates a belief to protect you and to stop you from experiencing that same ‘pain’ again. The job of the subconscious is to protect you. Therefore if it perceives that you will experience discomfort, it will prevent you from doing the thing that would take you out of your comfort zone. That’s why so many people never move out of their comfort Zone. Ask yourself, what is the fear behind the action I want to take? For example, is it a fear of rejection, embarrassment, failure, success etc. And yes…people do fear success! When you uncover the fear, you discover the self-limiting belief that you are holding on to.

You Often Feel Overwhelmed

Feeling overwhelmed stems from fear. For example, fear of not being perfect, fear of failure, fear of getting it wrong etc. There is usually a limiting belief attached to this such as “I need to be perfect or X Y Z.” Reframe things by reminding yourself that there is no such thing as being perfect. Take one step at a time with tasks. Use breathwork techniques to calm your mind which will help to reduce the physical sensations around overwhelm.

You Downplay Your Successes

When someone congratulates you or tells you how well you’re doing, you bat away the compliment or you feel like your achievements are a ‘fluke’. Deep down you feel like whatever you do just isn’t good enough. These feeling usually stem from not feeling worthy. Increasing feelings of self-worth can take time. A starting point is your self-talk. Appreciate how far you’ve come and congratulate yourself on your milestones. However, regardless of any ‘achievements’, be kind to yourself every single day unconditionally. Be kind to yourself wherever you’re at in life.

You Struggle to Bring into Your Life What You Desire

If you have unconscious beliefs like “earning money is hard” “I don’t deserve this” “I could never achieve that”, you’ll unknowingly block it from coming into your life. We attract what we believe we deserve because that’s the energy we are putting out into the universe. Look out for a pattern of goals not coming to fruition. Start to recognise what the underlying beliefs are behind this. Then you can release and change those beliefs.

Our beliefs can propel us forward or keep us stuck. However, once you become aware of these beliefs, you can start to tell yourself a different story!
